The Director of Strategic Digital Learning Initiatives assists and implements the ongoing enhancement of GW's programs requiring multimedia implementation in both face-to-face and online instruction. In addition to managerial responsibilities, the Director is a key leader in the LAI Teaching and Learning Unit responsible for emerging cross-departmental and disciplinary initiatives that grow the teaching and learning vision and mission of GW. To this end, the Director will oversee the multimedia team (producers and designers) assisting instructional designers and faculty to develop high-quality digital products for coursework and curriculum enhancements; will oversee and partner with other directors and teams within LAI; serve as the chief catalyst for developing a culture of digital fluency for faculty and staff contributing to and advancing the existing faculty development and instructional design programs.. The Director, Strategic Digital Learning Initiatives will:. Manage the Digital Learning Department.. Contribute to an environment of collaboration and collegiality that leads to a better understanding of the value of teaching and learning initiatives across the university.. Develop with the Associate Dean, a vision and strategic plan that maximizes the role of multimedia as part of the ongoing teaching and learning excellence of the university and includes faculty and student development and training.. Foster the development of policies and programming that support faculty to become more informed, confident, creative, and reflective in their adoption of digital and multimedia technologies in teaching.. Collaborate with other departments within the unit: Instructional Design Department, The Faculty Development Department, the Instructional Technology Lab as well as with other units within LAI in the development of a landscape of programming support for faculty that includes both breadth of pedagogical approaches as well as depth of engagement in specific approaches (including supporting the scholarship of teaching and learning).. Assume responsibility for the development, launch, and support of existing and new digital fluency programs.. Serve as an active participant in institution-wide online learning initiatives and committees, and forms a collaborative relationship with academic schools to support their curricular objectives.. Collaborate with the other Directors within the Teaching and Learning Unit. Seek and share up-to-date knowledge about appropriate uses of technology across disciplines. The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.. Minimum Qualifications:. Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.. Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:. Masters Degree in the educational technology field or equivalent professional experience. Higher education teaching experience preferred.. Knowledge and experience of the evolving teaching and learning landscape and the digital and multimedia needs of quality instruction and training.. Management experience with the skills to elevate the visibility of the areas under her/his purview and serve as a partner for campus-wide priorities.. A proven track record of experience in educational administration within higher education including online education, and a strong appreciation of the faculty role to catalyze support and enthusiasm for advancing the educational mission of the university.. Proven outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and an open and collegial style.. Proven record of strong leadership skills including influencing, diplomacy, coaching and mentoring, and ability to facilitate discussions between project stakeholders to challenge, build consensus, negotiate and achieve common goals.. Demonstrated expertise in enhancing face-to-face, hybrid, and online teaching and learning.. A proven record of strong commitment to cross departmental and cross-disciplinary engagement.. Desire and/or proven ability to engage in visioning with senior leadership for fostering an environment of pedagogical innovation and digital creativity, including online learning.. Experience in the successful management of budgets and operations, including technology and highly-skilled professional staff; capacity to lead an effective, high-performing department, including implementing long-range goals; an ability to manage, motivate, and develop synergies among stakeholders.. Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in educational technology and an intrinsic desire to learn new and emerging technologies that apply to education.. Ability to understand instructional needs and acquire tools necessary for cutting edge and innovative instruction, student engagement, and learning laboratory experimentation.. Experience in project management including experience leading action-oriented task groups, with attention to collaboration and member accountability. A commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.. Entrepreneurial spirit and creativity necessary for success in the position..
